Dispute letter builder

Found a mistake on your credit report? Disputing it is free. Fill this in and you’ll get a letter to the credit bureau — or to the company that reported the item — based on the CFPB sample dispute letter (PDF). Nothing you type leaves your device: it isn’t sent to us or saved.

Who you’re writing to

Dispute with both if you can — the CFPB suggests writing to the bureau and to the company. Build one letter, then switch this and build the other.

Then send it

  1. Send it to the address on your report or on the bureau’s dispute page — or dispute online: Equifax: dispute online · Experian: dispute online or by mail · TransUnion: dispute online.
  2. Mail it certified with a return receipt, so you have proof it arrived, and keep a copy of everything.
  3. The bureau has to investigate and tell you the result. The company that reported it generally must respond within 30 days.
  4. Still wrong? CFPB: submit a complaint. If it’s identity theft, start at IdentityTheft.gov.

How it works, step by step: CFPB: how to dispute an error. This tool writes general-purpose letters and isn’t legal advice; you can only dispute information that’s wrong, incomplete or can’t be verified.
