Privacy and terms

What we collect

  • A random visitor ID in a first-party cookie, so we can count unique readers, remember which stories you marked useful, and stop duplicate votes. It is not linked to your name.
  • Reading signals for each story: that it was opened, roughly how long it was read while on screen, how far you scrolled, and whether you shared or liked it. The newsroom uses these totals to decide what to cover.
  • What you send us: comments, questions, story ideas, and the name and email you enter. Emails are never shown publicly.
  • Tips: what you tell us, any photo or video you upload, and the name and contact details you give (stored encrypted). Uploads stay private unless an editor clears them for a story; rejected tips’ uploads are deleted. We never publish a tipster’s name or contact details.
  • Searches made on this site, without your identity, to understand what readers want covered.
  • A one-way hash of your IP address to stop spam and abuse. We don’t store the address itself.

No advertising

CashIn Computer shows no ads. The cards marked “Now across CashIn” are free story placements from CashIn Now, a CashIn company. They set no cookies; to avoid showing you the same story twice, CashIn Now’s script keeps one random ID in this site’s browser storage — not when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. It reads this page’s title and topic to pick matching stories, never forms or what you type, and counts a story as seen when half of it is on screen for a second.

On your home screen

You can add CashIn Computer to your phone or computer like an app. It then keeps copies of the pages you open on your device so they work without a connection; clearing the site’s data in your browser removes them.

Payments

Tips and memberships are processed by Square. We never see your card number. We keep the amount, email, Square payment ID and the reference code you used.

Tips and uploads

By sending a file you confirm you have the right to share it, that it shows no one’s address or personal details, doesn’t identify injured people or minors, and contains nothing you aren’t allowed to share (and that you didn’t take it somewhere closed or off-limits), and that CashIn may publish it (with our watermark for video) if an editor uses your tip. We don’t pay for tips.

Corrections

If you believe a CashIn Computer piece is wrong — a name, a number, a date, a quote, an attribution — email computer@cashinnews.com — an editor reviews every request, and corrections are noted at the top of the story.

AI-generated content

CashIn Computer’s own pieces and all answers in “Ask about this piece” are produced by AI and labeled, written only from stories CashIn’s newsrooms published; the stories themselves belong to those newsrooms, which list their own sources and corrections. AI can still make mistakes — check the linked stories before relying on anything, and email computer@cashinnews.com to report a problem. Nothing on this site is legal, financial or medical advice. If you’re asked to remove information about yourself, or see something that puts someone at risk, email us and an editor will act quickly.

Comments

By posting, you confirm you wrote it and give us permission to display it. We remove spam, harassment, threats, personal information about others and illegal content. Moderation is assisted by AI and reviewed by editors.
