SeaWorld Orlando's Mako roller coaster is open again. The ride reopened Tuesday, Oct. 20, and "resumed normal operations," a SeaWorld spokesperson told FOX 35 Orlando in an email.
The Orlando Sentinel, FOX 35, WFTV, WESH and Attractions Magazine all reported the reopening. WFTV described it as a weeklong closure.
Why Mako closed
According to FOX 35, Mako closed as a precaution on Oct. 13. That was a day after a man died after falling from the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. Investigators say the man was ejected from Goliath and fell on Monday, ABC7 Chicago reported.
SeaWorld previously confirmed to WFTV that Mako was taken out of service "out of an abundance of caution" while the investigation in Georgia continued. At the time, the park said it was working closely with its partners, including Six Flags and Bolliger & Mabillard, to stay informed about the investigation, according to WFTV's reporting as carried by Yahoo.
What we know about the two rides
FOX 35 reported that Mako and Goliath were both designed by the Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, and that the coasters have similar ride restraints. A restraint is the lap bar or harness that holds a rider in the seat.
FOX 35 also reported that SeaWorld did not say whether any modifications were or will be made to Mako.
In Georgia, the OCI said in an Oct. 15 news release that Goliath's most recent OCI inspection took place on March 16, 2026, and that no violations, deficiencies, citations or red tags were reported during it. The investigation into the incident is continuing, and none of the sources we reviewed state a cause.
Before you go
The sources we reviewed give no new ride details beyond the reopening, such as changes to operating hours or rider rules. Check SeaWorld Orlando's official website or app on the day of your visit for Mako's status, since rides can close for weather or maintenance. We did not see the park's own announcement, so rely on its channels for the latest word.
