Politico reported Anthropic is quietly shopping a draft federal bill on frontier AI safety. Coverage says intervention would require extreme harm: over $1 billion in damage or more than 50 deaths or serious injuries.
The San Francisco lab's draft would let a court halt a model that poses imminent catastrophic risk, but no agency could stop one alone. The draft is not law.
The proposal would apply only to models posing a risk of killing or seriously injuring more than 50 people or causing over $1 billion in damage. As of Oct. 18, it had not been published or introduced in Congress, per one report.
